Landlords: Have You Complied With The 31 May 2026 Renters’ Rights Deadline?

Many landlords are still unaware that an important compliance deadline under the Renters’ Rights Act is now approaching fast.

By 31 May 2026, many landlords and letting agents are required to provide existing tenants with the official government Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet.

This is not simply guidance or best practice.

Failure to comply could expose landlords to financial penalties up to £7,000 and create wider complications if possession proceedings become necessary in the future.

At KMC Legal & Finance, we are already receiving enquiries from landlords unsure:

• Whether the requirement applies to them
• Which tenants must receive the document
• How it should be served correctly
• Whether their tenancy agreements remain compliant
• What impact the new legislation could have on possession proceedings moving forward

The reality is that the rental sector has changed significantly following the abolition of Section 21 notices and the introduction of the new tenancy framework.

For many landlords, especially those managing one or two properties themselves, the legal obligations are becoming increasingly complex.

How KMC Legal & Finance Can Help

Our team can assist landlords and letting agents with:

• Reviewing tenancy agreements
• Compliance checks and audits
• Guidance on serving the Information Sheet correctly
• Advice regarding Section 8 possession grounds
• Rent arrears matters
• Tenant disputes
• Ongoing landlord legal support

What many landlords do not realise is that getting paperwork wrong now could lead to delays, disputes, or challenges later if possession of a property is required.

Taking advice now could avoid significant legal costs in the future.

If you are unsure whether your tenancy documents and landlord processes are compliant ahead of the 31 May 2026 deadline, our team is here to help.
